The aim of the intervention study is to examine a dietary recommendation that positively influences the health status of 50 to 70 year olds.
The NutriAct dietary pattern focuses on the prevention of age-related diseases by improving the cardiovascular function, decreasing loss of muscle mass, and reducing liver fat as well as improving cognitive and metabolic function.

In contrast to nutritional advice based on the dietary guidelines of the German Nutrition Society (DGE), the NutriAct dietary pattern is characterized by a high protein content consisting of primarily plant protein sources, more unsaturated fatty acids, improved fibre content, reduced carbohydrate intake and products with a low glycaemic index.
The two nutrition patterns will be compared within a randomized intervention study at the Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin and the German Institute for Nutrition Potsdam-Rehbruecke.
Data from 500 people aged 50 to 70 years with moderate metabolic disturbances will be analyzed. Each study centre has recruited 250 volunteers. Of these, 125 probands eat according to the NutriAct diet pattern (intervention) whereas 125 probands follow the nutrition guidelines of the DGE (control).
